View from San Angelo Raffaele

Artist: Haig, The Earl, RSA · 1918-2009

Earl Haig has described the genesis of the painting "My picture was painted from a water colour made in/ Venice in the late 1980's/ and painted here in the early/ 1990's. The title is "View from San ANGELO RAFFAELE" and I was looking towards/ San Giovanni dei Mendicole [ probably the Church of San Nicolo dei Mendicoli] / I visited Venice for a number of years...I painted a number of/ oils & water colours - the/ w/colours on the spot & the oils/ on returning home...This painting is fairly accurate/ from a topographical point/ of view - the forms & colours/ painted freely" (See letter from Earl Haig to the Collections Assistant dated 2005-09-08 in green box file 'Members' Research File, Original Archives'.)
