A preparatory sketch, squared for transfer, for Gillies' oil on canvas painting 'Interior, Temple,' 122.0 x 173.0cm, as reproduced in W Gordon Smith's monograph W G Gillies A Very Still Life, Edinburgh, 1991, col plate, p.68 [top] credited to the collection of A Fletcher, and which was exhibited at the RSA AX in 1951 (cat.243). Gillies had moved with his mother and surviving sister Jenny to Temple Cottage in 1939; his mother is the figure bent over a the sink in the background, and Jenny the female figure to the left of the composition.
