Landscape with road and telegraph poles - sketch
Artist: Gillies, William George, Sir, CBE RA RSA PPRSW · 1898-1973
The specific location has not been identified but is probably somewhere in the countryside close to Gillies' home at Temple village in Midlothian.
It is the juxtaposition of the telegraph poles which makes this sketch stand out and must have been the element which attracted Gillies to the scene.
It looks like he has simply pulled in at the side of the road and recorded what he has seen across the river which cuts across the foreground, the fence posts mirroring the distant telegraph poles.
