Village Street, Temple
Artist: Gillies, William George, Sir, CBE RA RSA PPRSW · 1898-1973
The present work is a preparatory study for Gillies' oil painting 'Temple - Dusk,' in the City Art Centre collection, Edinburgh.
In the finished oil, Gillies has framed the scene by the device of two vertical white lines, one at either side, and the moon has been significantly enlarged and dropped slightly in the sky.
The view is looking north west along Temple's Main Street from the corner of Gillies' own cottage
