The attribution to Muirhead is based solely on the fact that this drawing was found alongside a collection of watercolours by Muirhead gifted in 1960, though the correspondence for that gift, from Mtr George F McKenzie makes no mention of this drawing and critically it does not carry the endorsement of authenticity by the artist's brother James S. Muirhead such as appears on 1993.435-1993.444 inc., and 1993.446-1993.457 inc. It has not, at time of creating this record, been possible to access an image of the etching of Muirhead by Francis Dodd, a copy of which is held by NPG, but which wuld help ascertain whether the man's hea dis indeed Muirhead's self portrait.
