The Cid and the Five Moorish Kings

This sketch relates to the finished painting that was exhibited at the RSA in 1882, catalogue number 196 "The Cid and the Five Moorish Kings- vide Lockhart's Spanish Ballads". A line engraving of the painting is reproduced on page 29 of The Royal Scottish Academy Notes 1882 and on page 50 of Grosvenor Notes 1881 as it was exhibited at the Grosvenor Gallery in 1881.
The large finished oil painting was purchased by a John Keiller of Dundee for £2,000 and a watercolour version of the finished painting, dated 1884, is in the collection of Perth Museum & Art Gallery.
