One of a number of works executed by Gillies during or immedately after his return from Florence in the Spring of 1924. He had travelled there in March 1924 after spending 6 months studying, alongside fellow ECA graduate William Geissler, under L'Hote in Paris on an ECA Post-Graduate Scholarship
