(recto face; left) The drawing depicts a front view of the sitter seen full face and he is clean-shaven with his hair parted on his left side and wears his trademark bowtie. There is a halo above his head and a large single cross cancels the image, which seems to be contemporaneous.
(verso face; right) A three-quarters view of the sitter viewed from his right hand side, wearing spectacles, with his prominent moustache and receding hair, heavy eyebrows and ruddy nose.
