Portrait format portrait sketch in black biro pen on a piece of scrap paper, of an elderly man in profile viewed from his left hand side, with his prominent forward thrusting lower jaw, receding hairline and stubble on his chin.
The drawing was provisionally listed on its discovery as “Sketch of an unidentified RSA(?)” and was identified as being a sketch of the RSA Sculptor Member, Benno Schotz RSA (1891-1984) by R H Rodger, RSA Documentation Officer on comparison with known photographs of Schotz, not least that reproduced as Plate XXVI (top) in Schotz’s Autobiography, Bronze in my Blood (pub. Gordon Wright, Edinburgh, 1981).
