Glencoe, The Three Sisters
Artist: Patrick, James McIntosh, Dr, RSA RE RSW · 1907-1998
The etched view, one of at least three recorded etchings of Glencoe by Patrick, was reversed and treated in oil by Patrick a few years later (collection Texas Instruments Inc., Dallas). The painting, having taken Patrick two years of experimentation and reworking to complete, was submitted to and rejected by the Royal Academy for its Summer Exhibition in 1934. He asked his London contact Harold Dickins to retain it in London for him. Dickins took it to the Fine Art Society who were bowled over by the picture and put it in their window. The painting proved to be the launchpad for Patrick as a landscape painter and also marked the long association between him and the FAS who became his agent.
