Half - Tide Rocks, East Coast, Berwickshire
Artist: Noble, James Campbell, RSA · 1845-1913
This painting was produced at the time the artist was living in Coldingham on the Berwickshire coast.
The closest fishing harbour to Coldingham is the village of St. Abbs, originally called Coldingham Shore, with the larger fishing town of Eyemouth a few miles to the south.
The specific location has not been convincingly ascertained however.
The local fishing fleets were devastated with the loss of 189 men and boys in the storm of Black Friday, 14 October 1881.
A similarly themed painting was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1891 "On the east coast" catalogue number 1044.
