Noble, James Campbell, RSA

1845 – 1913

Apprenticed as a young boy to a lithographic firm whilst attending the Trustees Academy under Chalmers and McTaggart and later the RSA Life Class winning the Keith Prize in 1873. Initially he practised largely as a figure painter but turned increasingly to landscapes and shipping scenes. He lived and worked on the Berwickshire Coast in the 1880's at Coldingham and later visited Holland, painting its inland waterways. He exhibited at the RSA from 1869 until 1913. He became an Associate Member of the RSA in 1879 and an Academician in 1892. His cousin was the artist Robert Noble, RSA (1857 - 1917)
