Bo-Peep
Artist: Duncan, Thomas, ARA RSA · 1807-1845
Duncan established himself as a portrait with his studies of female and child sitters being particularly praised.
The intimate nature of the present work may suggest that the small boy was one of the artist's own sons, probably his third child and second son, William.
Typical of Duncan's work is the natural colouring of the sitter's skin and complexion and the confidence with which he tackles different textures.
