Prince Alexander of Battenberg

One of five sketches done for a Memorial Picture of the first Royal baptism in Scotland since that of Henry the brother of Charles Ist in 1591.The baptism was of Prince Maurice of Battenberg, brother of Prince Alexander of Battenberg.Commissioned by Queen Victoria. The painting for which this is a study is in the Royal Collection and was exhibited at the RSA in 1893 catalogue number 230. A study for the finished painting incorporating all the figures is in the SNPG (PG1306).
