Crow's Nest, Shetland

Artist: Michie, David Alan Redpath, Professor, OBE RSA RGI FRSA(Scot) · 1928-2015

The artist visited Shetland on his own in 1959 to attend a Summer School [during which stay he was photographed sketching at Lerwick Harbour by Ian Fleming RSA – vide faded b&w print of this image in Michie bequest] and returned for a family holiday the following year where he made sketches at Lerwick and Walls. The RSA Michie bequest holds a sketchbook [temp no.51] of Shetland sketches, whilst sketchbook [temp no.52] holds the actual preparatory studies for the present work.
