Furnace Quarry, the Streets of a Great City

This painting is one of a series that Kay produced of Furnace Quarry. A large scale painting of Furnace Quarry was purchased in 1930 by the Trustees of the Caird Bequest and was presented to the Watt Institute Collection in Greenock and another painting of Furnace Quarry is in Paisley. Reference in RSA Annual Report 1935, page 12. Glasgow Art Gallery and Museum has a painting 'Furnace Quarries - streets of a great city' undated, gifted by Mrs Margaret Kay in 1936. An identically titled painting was also exhibited at the RSA in 1929 catalogue 390 and was unsold at the end of the exhibition, this may have been the same piece as the Diploma Work.
