Brown exhibited a work titled "A French Peasant at his Thrashing Mill" at he RSA AX in 1899, which is clealry not the present work. These appear to fit a series of farm-work-related subjects which preoccupied him during the earlier part of his career, no doubt influenced by the Glasgow Boys.
