Vase of Honesty, Full moon
Artist: Gillies, William George, Sir, CBE RA RSA PPRSW · 1898-1973
A view looking south from a sun lounge a the artist's home and studio at Temple village in Midlothian.
The white-framed window viewed beyond the sun lounge windows at he right hand side are those of Gillies' actual studio although he seems to have freely painted at different locations around the property.
The focus is on the foreground still life of a conical vase filled with cut stems of honesty. The silver seed heads echoes the shape and tone of the moon at upper right.
