Cottage Beside Harbour
Artist: Gillies, William George, Sir, CBE RA RSA PPRSW · 1898-1973
Gillies undertook a painting trip to Berwickshire in August 1955, taking in Coldingham and the nearby fishing ports of St Abbs and Eyemouth.
Robert Gemmell Hutchison RSA holidayed in the area which was also a favourite haunt of Willie Rodger RSA and John Bellany HRSA.
The colour notes on the sketch suggest that Gillies had intended possibly working the sketch into a finished painting, though it is not known whether he ever did so.
