Self Portrait
Artist: Edmonstone, Robert, HRSA · 1793-1834
Edmonstone hailed from Kelso in the Scottish borders and by 1818 was living in London and exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy from then until his death, showing mostly portraits.
Figurative works shown in 1830, 1833 and 1834 suggest that he travelled to Italy towards the end of his life.
He died in his birthplace aged just forty, perhaps having returned sick in the hope that the country air would suit his constitution.
