Artist: Gillies, William George, Sir, CBE RA RSA PPRSW · 1898-1973

one of a number of portraits executed by Gillies of Miss Annie Margaret [Margery] Porter, the daughter of friends of his, and a neice of S J Peploe RSA.

The work is very closely related to a larger, more loosley handled but near identical oil in the RSA Collections, G.1991.580 the present work probably being the primus version, from which the other work was adapted, lengthened and simplified
