Accretion
Artist: Mills, Polly · b. 1988
Triptych of 7.5cm squares laid out horizontally with a 1.5cm gap between them and 1.3cm between the squares and the inner edge of the window mount. Each square is filled with a network of miniscule straight lines, intersecting in small circles like roundabouts. The right centre square a larger network of circles, while the left square has no larger network overlaid.
Accretion is a prototype for the series of works the artist produced for her Degree Show at Edinburgh College of Art in 2012. http://www.degreeshow.eca.ed.ac.uk/2012/showcase.php5?id=1566. The artist gives various works the same title of Accretion and two works titled Accretion were exhibited as part of RSA New Contemporaries 2013. Since this work the artist has regularly worked in triptych as a way to progress an idea in material form. This work was intended to be worked up to a drawing of 86 x 86cm but with the scale of marks remaining the same. In-depth information about the work (concepts, process, materials) can be found on file in “Acquisitions - Scholarships and Awards” and in digital form in the Scholarships and Awards network folder.
