Devine

Artist: McLay, Kane · d. 1995

The present work was executed during his Kinross Scholarship at the Stamparia edi Graphica, and the subject matter is drawn from the sculpture which the artist encountered in The Bargello (also known as the Palazzo del Bargello, Museo Nazionale del Bargello, or Palazzo del Popolo), In applying for the Kinross Scholarship the artist stated that he wished to study these particular works as the Bargello had formerly served as a former barracks and prison before it became an art museum. This resonated with the artist who had personal experience of having been detained in the holding cells of Dundee police station whilst his artwork was confiscated.
