Hawthornden
Artist: Ouchterlony or Ochterlony or Cumming, Elizabeth Maria · 1776-1854
Amongst the Laing material now owned by the NGS (transferred from the RSA in 1910, is a little pen and ink drawing (D 46) inscribed “W del et fecit” – but the artist is recorded as Unknown which shows Hawthornden from exactly the spot taken by Mrs Cumming in the present work (there are differences at the right hand side which suggest the drawing and painting are not necessarily directly linked).
