According to Bella Bathurst in her essay in the catalogue to Cooper’s Scattered Waters exhibition at the Ingleby Gallery, Edinburgh in 2014, on 1969-04-01 Cooper, having decided to become a photographer made himself 4 vows which he has upheld since; 1. To only shoot landscape, to only work in black and white, to only take a single exposure at each location and to only use his 1898 Agfa/Ansco camera.
