Climbing up to the Emerald Dome
The painting is based on the Duomo in Florence, and the ornateness of Florentine architecture which the artist first encountered during her RSA John Kinross Scholarship Award residency in the autumn of 2017.
The artist explained that the painting was heavily inspired by paintings which she saw in the Ufizzi Gallery, which featured religious buildings. The elongated support serves to highlight the height of the Duomo and she sought also to capture the repetitive patterns and ornate nature of the exterior. The artist worked the painting up from sketches made whilst in Florence, combined with 3-D models made after her return to the UK.
