Gay Table Top
Artist: Gillies, William George, Sir, CBE RA RSA PPRSW · 1898-1973
The 1970 Gillies Retrospective Exhibition included (cat.95) an oil painting of comparable size dated to 1968 and titled "The Gay Table III" lent by the artist. It is possible that the present work is related.
The blue and white tulip vase subsequently ended up in the collection of two of Gillies' students from Edinburgh College of Art, Elizabeth Blackadder RSA and her husband John Houston RSA by whom bequeathed to the RSA.
