A contemporary advertisement taken out by Moon in the weekly publication The Torch, on Saturday 19 May 1838 lists a number of “Splendid Prints in progress” and including this one; “The First Ear Ring engraved by W.Chevalier after the painting by Sir David Wilkie in the collection of the Duke of Bedford.
