There are variations on the theme and composition of this watercolour in the City Art Centre Collection 'Edinburgh Worthies' and 'A Few Old Edinburgh Characters' the latter is almost identical to the watercolour in the RSA collection. There is an album in the Edinburgh Room of Edinburgh City Library of single figures in watercolour by Holt of many of the figures that appear in the figure group pieces. In most cases the figures have been lifted directly from these studies and inserted into the larger watercolours with the addition of the backdrop of the High Street and St Giles Cathedral.
