MacNee exhibited in the 1847 RSA Annual Exhibition (cat.24) a Portrait of Rev Samuel Miller of Free St Matthew's, Glasgow. This appears to be the Independent Chapel erected 1849-52 and now known as Renfield St Stephens, at 256 1/2 Bath Street, Glasgow. Miller (1810-81) was the son of the Rev James Miller (1777-1860) of Monikie, both men appearin gin a calotype by D O Hill and Robert Adamson. A comparison of the calotype against the mezzotint and the detail of the church depicted in the mezzotint against the description of Renfield St Stephens' "tall SW tower with spire"may help determine whether this is the identity of the sitter.
