The artist was in Italy in 2006 on an RSA John Kinross Travel Scholarship.
The subject of this drawing was a lady who had a small shop next door to the flat in which Clare Brennan was staying in Florence. She was an artisan who made string instruments. She is seen shaping the body of a violin.
At the time of the deposit of this study, the artist was planning on working this study into a painting.
