vide Frith (op cit., fig 23, p.54) for a sketchbook page dated 1971 featuring near identical shapes which appear to have been inspired by Cumming’s use of an electron microscope to study cell structures. On the basis of the orientation of that illustration, the present drawing has been accessioned so that the three shapes appear vertically also
