Sketch of Dunkeld from the East
Artist: Hill, David Octavius, RSA · 1802-1870
The scene is not identified, but shows a distant town with a bridge and prominent tower suggesting a cathedral rather than a church. Dunkeld in Perthshire fits the description. Hill executed a view of Dunkeld from the East from a finished sketch purchased by Queen Victoria from the publisher John Constable in January 1844 (Royal Collection 403732), which Hill exhibited at the RSA in 1845 (cat 82).
