Torthorwald Castle in Nithsdale

This appears to be the original drawing reproduced as a plate facing page 147 in Volume 1 of Grose’s the Antiquities of Scotland (2nd ed). The drawing has the word “Rubble” written in the foreground wall, which is otherwise only sketchily defined as being of stone construction. In the finished plate it is resplendent in its rubble construction.
