Architect: Wheeler, Harold Anthony [Tony], Sir, OBE PPRSA RSA · 1919-2013

This piece is a composite work and comprises of drawings and photographs of a number of projects that date from the nineteen sixties through to the nineteen seventies. Sir Anthony Wheeler has confirmed in conversation with the Collections Assistant on 29/11/2007 that the watercolour drawings were all made by him especially for the Diploma Work (nb. the drawing of St Columba's in Glenrothes is very similar to one that is reproduced on page 79 of the article by Diane Watters "St Columba's, Glenrothes: A post - war design laboratory for reformed worship" in "Architectural Heritage XII, The Journal of the Architectural Heritage Society of Scotland" (Edinburgh 2001). Wheeler has also explained that the photographs in the diploma work were taken by him and that St Columba's Church, Glenrothes was granted A listed status in 2007. (see Wheeler's file for notes from conversation) Designs for many of the individual projects were exhibited at the RSA and the RGI Annual Exhibitions at the time of their conception. At the 1976 RSA 150th Anniversary Exhibition, "Dysart Redevelopment Phase II" was exhibited. A black and white photograph, different to the one shown on the diploma work, is reproduced as a black and white plate in the 1976 150th Anniversary Exhibition catalogue on page 89, plate 5. Note that the RCAHMS has held the Wheeler & Sproson practice archive since 2006 and also holds early student drawings gifted by Sir Anthony Wheeler.
