Though the portrait is credited in the title as being after Jan Anthonisz van Ravestyn, it is in fact taken from the Portrait of an Unidentified Scholar in the Mauritshuis in The Hague by Thomas de Keyser
The British Museum which holds an impression of this work states that the attribution of the original portrait to van Ravensteyn is spurious, the head actually being taken from the Portrait of an Unidentified Scholar by Thomas de Keyser in the Mauitshuis, The Hague
