Albert Primary School, Springburn
Creator: Boys, John, ARSA · 1928-2000
Albert Primary School at 10 Barclay Street, Springburn, Glasgow, was designed for Glasgow Corporation, Boys was the principal architect responsible whilst working for the firm which he founded in 1958, Lothian Barclay Jarvis & Boys. The cost of the school was put at £200,00 in the RIBA Directory, 1970, which reported that work was then in progress on the build, the commission having been made in 1968 [vide http://www.scottisharchitects.org.uk/building_full.php?id=405453].
The building appears to have ceased to serve as a school when nearby Springburn Academy was opened around 2003-04 and now [2022-03-27] appears to have been demolished and replaced by housing on the site.
The present project was the last of a number for primary schools in Glasgow and the neighbouring towns of Cumbernauld, Kirkintilloch and Lenzie undertaken by Lothian Barclay Jarvis & Boys between 1963 and 1968.
