Partnership founded in 1826 by [Sir] William Johnston (1802-88) and his younger brother Alexander Keith Johnston (1804-71) which became one of the leading Edinburgh based cartographers. Alexander was appointed Geographer-Royal for Scotland in 1843. William later served as Lord Provost of Edinburgh and was knighted. Their printworks, the Edina Works, were situated off Easter Road.
