Stevenson, William Grant, RSA

1849 – 1919

William Grant Stevenson trained in Edinburgh at the Trustees Academy winning gold and silver medals. He proceeded to study at the RSA Life School. He produced portrait busts and large scale public works such as the 1884 colossal statue of William Wallace in Aberdeen. In addition to his work as a sculptor he also painted, mainly animals, and did some limited book illustrating. His brother was the sculptor David Watson Stevenson RSA. William Grant Stevenson exhibited at the RSA between 1868 and 1919. He became an Associate Member of the RSA in 1885 and an Academician in 1896.
