Duffin, Stuart, RSA

b. 1959

Born in Windsor, Duffin lived and worked in Glasgow from 1963 to 1978 and then proceeded to train at Gray's School of Art, Aberdeen (1978 - 1982). He has been a member of staff at the Glasgow Print Studio since 1984 becoming Studio Workshop Manager. He works mainly in the field of intaglio printmaking and in addition to his own output has been involved with many leading printmakers. In 1996 Duffin was invited to work at the Jerusalem Print Workshop for a month as part of an international artists exchange with Glasgow Print Studio. Twenty years later, in 2016, Duffin received an RSA Gillies Bequest Award to finance an artist’s residency at the Jerusalem Print Workshop. His 2020 exhibition 'Peace Starts with a Smile' comprised etching, mezzotint, digital printmaking collage, oils and an audio visual work, was largely the result of that residency. Duffin is now based between his home studio in the North East of Scotland, Glasgow Print Studio (as the etching master) and the Jerusalem Print Workshop. In 2022 Duffin made a most generous gift to the RSA Collections of his personal collection of 101 Printer's Proofs of prints produced by the late Dame Elizabeth Blackadder RA RSA at GPS under his guidance. He became an Associate Member of the RSA in 1996 and an Academician in 2005.
