Balmer, Barbara C., RSA

1929 – 2017

Barbara Balmer studied at Coventry School of Art and Edinburgh College of Art where she was awarded a travelling scholarship that took her to Spain and France. She lectured for ten years at Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen and latterly lived in England. Her work often features Italian themes having first visited Italy in 1973, the flatness of fresco painting having inspired her painting style. She was married to the artist George Mackie. She became an Associate Member of the RSA in 1973 and an Academician in 2005.
