Artists’ portraits, of themselves, each other and their families form a strong vein in our collections. The RSA tradition of commissioning a President’s portrait, creates a line through our history as an institution, and society portraits also form part of our collections. Animals often join these portraits, or are the direct focus of the artistic gaze.
