Farm Buildings and Trees
Artist: Gillies, William George, Sir, CBE RA RSA PPRSW · 1898-1973
The pantiled roofs of the farm buildings suggest a setting most likely in East Lothian or Fife, but the farm has not otherwise been identified.
Stylistically the work probably post dates his Edinburgh College of Art Andrew Grant Travelling Scholarship visit to France and Italy in 1924 when he would have encountered Post-impressionist and cubist works for the first time in the raw.
