Temple, Backs of Houses
Artist: Gillies, William George, Sir, CBE RA RSA PPRSW · 1898-1973
Painted from a field to the west of Main Street in Temple village, looking NE towards the most north-westerly group of cottages in the village, including the house and two conjoined cottages at no.14 which formed the artist's family home, studio, and garage, from 1939 until his death there in 1973. He painted many views of this group of buildings as well as others in and around the village, with many of his major still life pictures executed in the studio and sun lounge which he added.
