2 for Joy
Artist: Coyle, Gemma · b. 1981
The title is taken from the popular children's rhyme about magpies; "One for sorrow, two for joy, three for a girl, four for a boy, five for silver, six for gold, seven for a secret never to be told."
Here the artist has created a sort of altar piece in which two over-size magpies occupy a church interior. Around the arch of the main panel a series of roundels contain monochrome images of assorted insects.
