The artist, an Architecture Graduate from the Mackintosh School of Architecture, Glasgow School of Art, was in Italy on a 1994 RSA John Kinross Travel Scholarship.
The restrained palette and tone of this sketch is evocative of the works made by early travellers undertaking the Grand Tour of Italy in the later 18th Century, and captures the effect of strong sunlight.
