The work depicts the artist’s son, a man aged 33, clean shaven, with a full head of hair with a left side parting, and its date is taken from a contemporary newspaper photograph in the Benno Schotz Studio Gift Archive showing the sculptor with the present bust in his studio, one of which is dated 1979-05-05 which refers to the bust as newly completed.
The work was cast in bronze and the bronze was exhib at RSA AX 1985.
The present ochred plaster version was included in the Benno Schotz Studio Sale, 1997-09-24 held by Christies Scotland at 164-166 Bath Street, Glasgow, lot 152 (est £200-300, unsold).
