The artist, an architecture graduate of Glasgow School of Art was the recipient of an RSA John Kinross Travel Scholarship in 1991.

The present work is an historic record as it captures, as a background detail to the right, the distinctive tear-shaped structure of the Basilica Santuario Madonna delle Lacrime, in the course of construction.

It is seen from the perimeter wall of Chiesa di San Giovanni alle Catacombe, looking South-east.
