one of a number of portraits executed by Gillies of Miss Annie Margaret [Margery] Porter, the daughter of friends of his, and a neice of S J Peploe RSA.
The work is very closely related to a smaller but near identical oil in the RSA Collections, G.1991.845 which is probably the primus version, from which the present work was adapted, lengthened and simplified
