This painting was reproduced as an engraving, see letter from Allan to D.O. Hill dated 1836-11-04 "I herewith send a picture/ according to the promise I made to/ the Academy. I would have/ sent it sooner but it had been for/ some time in the hands of the Engraver." Letter in Archive Box "19th c artist's letters A - B". In the catalogue of the sale of items from Allan's studio in April 1850 organised by Tait and Nisbet of 11 Hanover Street on page 20 catalogue number 487 is 'The Stirrup Cup (engraved)' (copy of this catalogue in 'Sir William Allan File' in green box file 'Members' Research Box 'A'. The engraving after the painting was executed by John Smith and published by Hodgson & Graves, 6 Pall Mall, London, on 1 October 1837 (vide BM for an impression ref 1933,1009.4)
